Guiding Principles of 50 by 35

Our Partners Are the Movement

1. We Act.
We will not just talk and write reports to diagnose problems, but rather push for
testing real-world, facts-on-the-ground that birth the Africa we want to see.

2. We Collaborate.
We do not recreate wheels. We identify the African builders working on solutions and connect them with the resources they need to scale. We do not pretend to have all the answers. So we invest in the African brains who will surely find the answers

3. We value lived experiences.
We believe there should be no solutions built for Africa without Africa. We believe that the lived experience of Africans themselves must be in every room where the future is built. You will therefore find us amplifying African input everywhere Solutions are being created.

4. We believe in the long term.
Our time horizon is not an annual report. It is the 25 – 50-year horizon to start to undo the legacy of the last 75 years or more.

5. We track success.
As a convener and amplifier, we will count what everyone is doing to get us there. How much money is mobilized for the African talent super highway? From whom? How many Africans are reaching the top of the human capital pyramid?

6. Human capital is our North Star
For every investment going to the African continent—climate, infrastructure, mining, health – we want partners to answer the following questions: What are the categories of skills in this sector needed annually over the next decade? How many skilled workers do we need to fill those gaps a year over the coming decade? How many do we currently have? What is the gap? What are the qualifications required to acquire the skills? Who offers the training? Where is it offered, at what cost? What are the innovations in education and skills development? What does collaboration between the OECD and African countries require for each relevant sector? With these answers, we can start to count and celebrate progress as we move forward
